Święconka – Happy Easter!

Święconka - Blessing of the Easter Baskets, a Polish Traditional Easter | Alex Inspired

Święconka means: “the blessing of the Easter baskets”.

It is a Polish Easter tradition which takes place on Holy Saturday. Baskets are filled with goods to be shared on Easter Sunday. This tradition dates all the way back to the 15th Century.

Easter Baskets include:

  • Eggs/Pisanki – symbolize life and Christ’s resurrection
  • Butter – symbolizes the good will of Christ
  • Bread – symbolic of Jesus, the bread of life
  • Lamb – represents Christ’s good will
  • Salt – represents purification
  • Horseradish – symbolic of the bitter sacrifice of Christ
  • Meat (Kielbasa) – symbolic of great joy and abundance
  • Sprigs of Greenery or flowers – represents joy, new life and spring
  • Candle – represents Christ as the light of the world
  • The Lindt Gold Bunny – represents my chocolate addiction, Jesus understands 😉Święconka – Happy Easter! | My Traditional Polish Easter Basket for Święconka! Celebrating Easter with Alex Inspired
